Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 1/2 cup sifted enriched flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Cream butter.
  2. Add sugar gradually, creaming until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.
  4. Stir in vanilla.
  5. Sift together dry ingredients.
  6. Add gradually to creamed mixture.
  7. Chill thoroughly, 3 or 4 hours.
  8. On well-floured surface, roll to 1/8 to 1/4 inch.
  9. Cut in shapes.
  10. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 375℉ for 6 to 8 minutes.
  11. Cool slightly on cookie sheet.
  12. Remove to rack.
  13. Makes about 8 dozen cookies, rolled thin.
